10 Best Fitness Centers in Detroit, Michigan

  1. Wayne State University’s Mort Harris Recreation and Fitness Center

Mort Harris Recreation and Fitness Center is a well known recreation and fitness center under the Wayne State University. It is located at 5210 Gullen Mall, Detroit, MI 48202. It was founded in 2000 and is the proud Warrior of the Department of Athletics Wayne State University since 2010.

Why Mort Harris? Who is Mort Harris? Well, the gymnasium has been endowed in perpetuity through the generosity of Mort Harris. Mr. Harris’ commitment to Wayne State University and his inspiring dedication to family, community and education stand as examples for others to follow.

The Mort Harris Recreation and Fitness Center is the location for students, faculty/staff and members to increase their personal health, reduce stress and enjoy exercise and recreation. The mission of the Department of Campus Recreation at Wayne State University is to provide recreational, social, and educational enrichment opportunities through quality programs and services. The Conduct Policy has been adopted to protect all users’ right of access to the facility, to ensure health, peace, and safety of all guests and staff, and to protect resources from damage.

To gain access to the gymnasium, you must have your OneCard or other Wayne State University issued Identification Card. Also as a courtesy, if you forget your OneCard, their staff will look you up in their data base. You are allowed 3 lookups per semester. Once you have used your lookups you will be required to bring your OneCard in order to gain access into the building.

According to reports gathered from clients’ review of the gym, the place has full-time employees of Wayne State University who are taking classes, and have their tuition paid by Wayne State University, are not eligible for access as students. Employee status always overrides students’ status. Full-time benefitted employees must purchase a membership.

Brandon T from Plainwell gave a client review on yelp. He reported that it is good facility, but it is poorly maintained.
